Nintendo have said they will be cutting the price of the Wii for the first time since it’s release.  Does this mean they are feeling the crunch?  I doubt it.  The cuts are happening in both the USA and Japan.  The Wii will be cut by $50 in the US which brings it down to $200.  No price cuts for the European market have been announced.

Nintendo may be following suit after both Sony and Microsoft have cut prices on their console back in August of this year.  The price drop is in time for christmas, which is the most busiest time for the gaming industry.  Traditional console always drop their price after an average 2 year period and this is done to broaden the people able to afford the console thus pushing sales up.  Originally when Nintendo launched the Wii, it was $50 cheaper than any of it’s competitors and after this latest decrease, it will regain that position.  The newest Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 models currently retail at aroiund the $300 mark.
