2012 will be an exciting year for gaming as Nintendo are set to release the new Wii U. This new console is the next in line to replace the current wii console and promises some exciting action with its new touch screen controller and precision motion controls it also offers full HD graphics.

The new control allows you to keep playing when the tv is turned off using its inbuilt screen which is also touch sensitive, the older wii plus remotes wil still be compatible .  The console itself wil look similar to the existing wii but slightly smoother looking with its curved lines.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 enjoy record sales

Combined this game has hit over 1.1 million sales since its release.  In June alone the US figures were at 548’000 units sold according to information gathered by the NPD Group.  This game is the follow up to the huge Maroi Galaxy one which is one of the most popular Mario games on the Wii.

Other information found in the report told us that Nintendo Systems have sold 933’000 units in June and handheld systems holding the top spot selling 510’000 units.  This sees handheld Nintendo collectively reaching a figure of over 42 million units sold compared to the Wii collective figure of 30 million units in the US alone.

Impressive sales figures are put down to Nintendo mix of value, leading technology such as the Wii remote and popular game selection with over half of the top 10 game spots going to Nintendo.

Just Dance returns with a brand new track-list of more than 40 popular songs, improved movement detection and hot new features to challenge friends and family. Just Dance 2 is immediate fun, eliminating inhibitions and bringing all generations together through the universal passion for dancing.

Just Dance 2 will feature tracks from classic hits and legendary songs to today’s chart-toppers. From this summer if you live in America you can expect to see anew logo appearing on new Wii systems and it will be the heart logo from the American Heart Association.  This will help Nintendo seal peoples opinion that the Wii System is a good fitness device and everyone must have one.  Since the release of the Limited Edition Black Wii System all the consoles are being sold packaged with the Wii Sports fitness game and as of summer 2010 they will carry the AHA branding.

The American Heart Association are supporting Nintendo in the way they promote fitness and active play with the message that you should be doing 30 minutes of fitness a day at the minimum to keep your heart healthy.  On average Americans spend eight hours a day sat down.  Support from AHA could be just what Nintendo require because products from Microsoft and Sony are becoming good competition for the Wii and its gaming accessories.

I wonder if Nintendo have plans to team up with other brands in other coutries, the UK might be next?  It wouldn’t be surprising if Doctors start recomending the Wii console as standard fitness device in the near future.

$1.6 Million was the settlement

Australian man James Burt has been stung for a whooping $1.6 Million dollars by Nintendo for being the first person to illegally distrobute the newest Mario game.  Super Mario Wii pre-release version was available on the webfor download illegally from November 6th 2009.  James Burt was found by a forensic investigator employed by Nintendo to be responsible for copying and uploading the game.  As a result he was taken to court and fined $1.5million dollars and ordered to pay $100’000 in fees.  The illegal copy was downloaded thousands of times before it got shut down and this marks a big victory in the land of piracy.

I’m not sure if James Burt has the money tucked away somewhere to pay the fine back but the average person would probably declare themselves bankrupt and Nintendo wouldn’t see a dollar.  So is this really a victory, and possibly james could make some cash of his new found fame?  Piracy is definitly wrong but maybe a more realistic fine or perhaps a punishment would of been better suited?

Most people will remeber when the Wii was like gold dust back in 2008.  People were buying them on eBay for silly money and retail outlets where totally out of stock.  Well in short it’s happening again.  I know, I know, you just can’t believe it either, I mean we are now in 2010 and stock they should of learn’t their lesson, so whats going on?

The Wii is by far the most popular gaming console to date and everyone knows at least some one who has one if they don’t have a Wii themselves.  Apparently this Wii problem is common at this time of year and is due to the Christmas influx of buyers from the year before.  The Wii’s haven’t yet reached they adequate restocked levels and things should be back to normal by the end of February.

Even the big boys like Amazon are not coping with demand.  The Wii is a popular machine and people are still hungry for them.  Stocks are being distrobuted but not fast enough for the demand.  If you are having trouble buying a Wii then it shouldn’t be as bad as 2008 and will soon resolve itself, just keep your hear to ground for new stock deliveries.

The Fifa 10 game released last year has made 9.7 million sales as of the end of December 2009.  The game, created by Electronic Arts (EA Sports) has most likely passed the 10 million sales mark by now which is an amazing achievment for the company.  The level of sales during the December period was over double that of the sales count up until the end of november 2009.  That means that up until end November they sold 4.5 million copies and in Decemeber sold 5.2 million.  This must of been due to Christmas.

The Fifa 10 game is a developement which has continued to grow from previous Fifa games and they keep getting better.  The Eurogamer score was rated at 9/10 which is near perfect. 

I’m definitly looking forward the the next release in the future.

The Wii console was first known under the code name Revolution up until April 27th, 2006 which was then announced at the annual E3 as the Wii.  Many people actually call it Nintendo Wii but this is not technically its name.  It is just called Wii and is the first Nintendo console to marketed outside of Japan and that doesn’t show the companies name as a trademark.

The name Wii is said to represent the Letter “w” in upper case with two people standing next to it which are represented by the two lower case letter “i”.  The majority of people say the Wii’s with the “s” on the end when they talk about the plural but Nintendo has stated that this should be said as either Wii systems or Wii consoles.

“Wii sounds like ‘we’, which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii”

Even though Nintendo have justified why the name Wii was choosen, some game developers and people from the press have slated them, saying that the original name Revolution would have been better.

“Revolution as a name is not ideal; it’s long, and in some cultures, it’s hard to pronounce. So we wanted something that was short, to the point, easy to pronounce, and distinctive. That’s how ‘Wii,’ as a console name, was created.”
