Nintendo show off the new 3DS handheld at the annual E3 show held in LA. The video below shows their presentation by , and below is the transcript for the video.

Presentation by Satoru Iwata

“Everyone this is Nintendo 3DS. I can’t wait for you to try this. As you can see it has 2 screens. and the upper screen has a 3.5inch wide screen display and yes it will show you full 3d graphics without the need for special glasses. As you know Nintendo produced the first video game, first 3d video game 15 years ago and since then 3d has been a constant constellation in the hard ware planning. What we searched for was a way to make 3d games a reality, a product for mass market and Nintendo 3DS is our answer.

Let me introduce you, here on this back we have installed a 3d effect slider to adjust the 3d effect. You can maximise it or you can remove the 3d all together, or you can choose any degree in between, simply by moving the slider. We have also given a lot of thought to the screen itself. Because Nintendo 3DS is a successor to the Nintendo DS it naturally comes with a touch panel. As we experimented however we realised that finger marks and other smudges reduced that 3D impact and so did the decreased transparency of the touch screen itself. In other words a touch screen and 3d screen do not get along very well. Because of this we decided to employ a touch screen only on the bottom justr as we did for Nintendo DS. And what makes the images so impactful is not just the 3ds images but the nature of the graphics. It’s been 6 years since we launched Nintendo DS, so while we’ve now added 3D We have also made improvements to the graphics capability of the hardware itself. Something tells me this alone might cause lots of enthusiasm in the development community.

Next…Let’s consider control

We have installed what we call the slide pad designed for (???) We have also integrated a motion sensor and a giro senor. I’m really hopeful that just with Nintendo DS and Wii a number of new game ideas will be born to take advantage of these new control mechanisms. Of course it has compatibility with Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS has a camera too, but look here there is not one but two camera lenses on the outside. What this mean is you can also take photo and view them in 3D.

Nintendo 3DS is the mass market device that lets you take and enjoy 3D digital pictures. You may want to try out this function at our booth, and I want to mention one more aspect. Nintendo 3DS is also capable of 3D movies, we are not announcing any specific plans this week but at our booth you will find the most ???? showing you 3D movie trailers for releases from Disney, Warner Bros and DreamWorks. You can see DreamWorks “How to train your Dragon”, Warner Bros “Legend of the Guardians” and the Disney’s “Tangled” all playing in 3D on Nintendo 3DS.

To our knowledge this is the first time, any such 3D content has been demonstrated without the need to wear glasses.”

Nintendo DS game consoles not only help us to take pleasure in a intense gaming session but in the interim also unwind our psyche and break us free from our every day hectic programs. These handheld devices are reasonably priced and accordingly are tremendously well-liked among all ages and income groups. Some of the Nintendo DS screen problems which we frequently come across include:

The Screen May Appear Cracked

The major snag the majority of users experience is that their screen appears cracked. The DS features two LCD screens, which occasionally build up dead pixels. If runny colours or blotchy colours lastingly remain on the screen, even when the Nintendo DS game console is switched off, then the liquid crystal display (LCD) is cracked. In this situation, your system will need to be repaired.

Lines on the Screen

Lines on the Screen can develop if the console is dropped, knocked about or badly treated. If you see lines on either screen of your Nintendo DS during game play, then it is possible that one or more of the components that create the image on the screen are damaged. This usually occurs if there has been an impact, such as being dropped or hit, to the screens.

Scratches on the Screen

Scratches can also be seen on the Nintendo DS upper screen, lower (touch) screen or both the screens. If the upper screen plastic cover appears scratched, customers can replace the screen by themselves with a new screen after going through proper replacement instructions. If you do not want to replace the screen cover yourself, you may want to have your system repaired or replaced by a local repair center.

It is not promising to replace the screen cover on the lower (touch) screen of the game console without particular tools. If you would like to have the lower screen replaced, the system will need to be sent in to Nintendo DS repair centre where they can professionally handle your requirements. If the touch screen is not responding when touched, or the accuracy of the screen is off, you may need to recalibrate the touch screen.

You might have a damaged Wii System, Handheld DS, DS Lite or the new DSi console and are wondering how to go about getting it repaired and getting a good job done. Well I thought I’d right a brief article about how and where you go about this.

This is for Nintendo customers based in the UK and Ireland only as we are going to talk about the official Nintendo website and this is the areas they cover.

Logging and sending the console

First log on to the Nintendo repair website. Here you will see the first heading on the page labeled “fast track repair”. You need to click to the right and you will be given a selection of models from which to choose your console. As mentioned above this covers the following; Wii Systems, DS, DS Lite and DSi handheld consoles. If you can’t see your model listed here it’s probably because it’s older and you then need to contact the Nintendo customer services.

Now select continue and you will be prompted to enter the serial number of you console. This is found on the official sticker normally on the base of all units. Make sure you include all the numbers. For example on the Wii the last number is surrounded by a black box but you must include this number. Some people leave this out. The code for the Wii is 11 digits long. Select continue.

The next stage asks you if you are sending back any other items with your console. Things such as adapters, Wii remotes etc. Only send them back if you think they are faulty.

Next Nintendo ask you to include proof of purchase if it’s still in the warranty period. This means al repairs will be done free unless they are exempt. If you need to pay for a repair to be carried out then Nintendo will require payment before the repair is completed. Major faults are charged and £70 and minor faults are £28.

After continuing there is the option to add additional comments which you might like to inform them of. Hit continue and fill out your details, after proceeding your details will be processed in their system and they will send you a freepost label that you use to post them your console. They also provide a username and password on this screen which can be used below.

Tracking the repair progress

After submitting your details the last screen would result in them giving you a username and password. Go back to the home screen and select track repair. Enter your username and password and they will give you the relevant update on how your repair is going. It fairly straight forward.

Other Info

You pretty much just need to wait for them to inform you with the status of repair. If you get stuck at any point then use their FAQ section or failing that there is a help line you can call. The number is 0870 6060247 or email nintendoservicecentre@codestorm.co.uk.

OK, so you’ve taken the plunge and bought yourself the new console from the Handheld DS range and with any luck you opted for the Cheap Nintendo DSi store page, so you haven’t had to pay full whack. Anyway, now you have the handheld console what next?

There’s a lot to do with your new toy, and you don’t even have to slot in the game card yet to find out. To begin with you might want to start snapping a few photos to check out the inbuilt cameras which can then be stored on an SD Card which makes transporting and transferring the photos easy or on the inbuilt Nintendo DSi memory. The cameras software allows you to take 11 different styles of photos which can then be manipulated and using the wireless connection you can send images for free between you and another Nintendo DSi.

Similarly to the photo editing functions the new DSi allows you to edit audio sound as well. The in built microphone allows you to record sounds which you can then play around with by using any one of the filters available. The SD Card will let you store your tracks and creations in AAC format so you can then transfer your sound files to other devices.

Once your setup with a wireless connection you will be able to access the DSiWare store from which you can download games and applications. If you have bought your Nintendo DSi brand-new then don’t forget that the first time you connect to the shop via your wireless connection you will be awarded DSi points as part of a limited time promotion offered by Nintendo. You can read more about that here. (Nintendo DSi Points Promotion). Point can then be redeemed for games and apps. There are also free games and apps available.

All this to do before you’ve even played your first game. The new Nintendo DSi is packed full of features and software so don’t forget to explore it all.

To find out how you can get a Cheap Nintendo DSi visit our store page.

The press release confrenece held on the 25th March 2009 told the public that Nintendo have exceeded 50 Million sales worldwide of their Nintendo Wii console since its release.

That is an impressive figure although to this is dwarfed by the fact that the NIntendo DS range has sold over 100 Million units worldwide. Remember to take into account that the Nintendo DSi is still yet to be released to Europe which happens on the 3rd of April 2009.

Just a bit more proof of my ebay getting a nintendo ds cheap strategy working..

My three year old daughter has been pestering my young son to play peppa pig and a few other games on his DS Lite. With this becoming more frequent, I decided to once again use my ebay strategy to get another DS cheap. This time it only took 2 days to get my bargain…

Followed the tried and tested weekday and combined it with the times 4-6pm.. and viola I got a DS for £26 and this was a fully working one and not one of the faulty ones on ebay

I’ve now received it and my daughter is now playing peppa pig on he own pink ds…

Nice…..

Nintendo HandHeld Console ? would you buy one? if so why?

This is the question. Why would a young child (6-10) want a Handheld Nintendo Console.

Does your child like to learn interactively?

Does your child often get bored and need something to do for an hour or so?

Is your child learning to read?

Is your child learning to count?

Is your child learning colours (this is more for younger children like my 3 year old)

If you can answer yes to any of these questions then maybe your child needs a Nintendo Handheld Console to learn with. They may think… woooow a handheld nintendo console!!! but your thinking about buying games that they will enjoy but that will stimulate the additional brain activity in play.

So they play and progress learning at an accelerated rate. This is rubbish you may be thinking.. but it is actually true. My son is now 6 and has had his Handheld DS for 2 years now and the first things he started to play (games I bought on purpose) was ‘scrabble’, ‘my word coach’, ‘brain training’ and ‘maths play’ I think its called. he did also get ‘super mario brothers’ and ‘mario karts ds’ as well.. I’m not that cruel to only buy learning software.

The main thing we have noticed is that after a couple of months of using the ds and software he started in year 1 of school and he was already reading books fluently. He didnt alays understand all the situations in those books but he understood all of the word and how to spell them. By the end of year 1 (july 2008) he was reading year 3 books for his reading homework.

The same has happened with his maths work as well.. to be honest it has been pretty amazing to see and put a lot of it down to working through the maths lessons on his Handheld DS. It may be partially in his genes on the maths side as I’m an software engineer and am pretty good in that area too.

But I dont believe so. He has also been invited to a 4th year maths session that they carry out once a week for an hour too. So you can image how proud I am at the moment.

The thing is he didn’t show any exceptional talent before he started using the learning software on his Nintendo Handheld Console, so i do believe this is what accelerated his learning and something that I believe other parents should at least look at.

Much of the software mentioned can now be bought pretty cheaply on places like ebay and at play.com and other similar sites.

I’ll post more information on the particular parts of the software themselves that seem to be more relevant to the learning process.
