It definitely won’t be the first time this has happened, for example the Wii was named Revolution and was taken as its final name until Nintendo had a change of heart and changed it. We do know that the new console is going to be played in 3D and will most likely be a console hit for gamers this Christmas. For now we will just have to keep guessing.

Something new to look forward to, the new handheld that is to be released by Nintendo this coming October. At the moment for the console goes by the name of 3DS, although it will most likely stay at this it isn’t unknown for people to change theirs minds as Nintendo did for the Wii, which was firstly named revolution.

The 3DS will be a console designed to be played in 3D and use the latest 3D technology and will be seen for the first time at the E3 show in June. It’s anticipated that the date for release will be set for this October and not some time next year as previously thought. This would make sense because Nintendo would be set to cash in on the Christmas console buying frenzy and should do pretty well considering the world is hyped up on anything 3D at the moment, be it cinema or TV.

The technology used in the handheld 3DS will mean gamers wont need to wear any special 3D specs to bring the games to life, it will already be visible to the naked eye. How this technology will work is another matter and after reading an article on “Kotaku” it seems they have a reasonable speculative explanation. It talks about the DSi-ware game called 3D Hidden Picture……

“It’s a DSiWare puzzle game, available in Japan, that uses the DSi’s camera to track the movement of the console, and adjust the image accordingly to make it appear “3D”. It’s entirely feasible – taking into account Nintendo’s obsession with keeping the cost of its hardware down – that Hidden Picture is a pointer towards how the 3DS will work.” ….

The above idea is a good shot at guessing what might be, as Nintendo have confirmed that the new handheld will be compatible with the earlier DS and DSi models.

I guess we will just have to wait and see, we will keep you updated when we hear more info. The E3 show in June should tell us all.

The Nintendo DSi is the most recent member of the DS family and boasts some nice additions to the previous DS Lite. Take a look below to see what all the fuss is about.

Two screens, 3.25 inches in size. They are larger than the previous DS Lite and have a resolution of 256 x 192. The screens are smaller than the Sony PSP which has a 4.3 inch display and the Apple I-touch at 3.5 inch but bear in mind that the DSi has two screens creating a bigger viewing area.

Cameras. Two cameras provide the DSi with unique gaming abilities and one of them is VGA. The first camera is located on the internal hinge to capture the players face and the second is located externally on the corner of the lid allowing the user to take pictures like a proper camera and using the gaming screens to view the shot. The PSP has an optional camera, which is 1.3mega pixels. The iPod Touch has a built in camera of 2 mega pixels.

Memory wise the Nintendo DSi provides an SD Card slot along with internal flash memory storage of 256mb. The PSP can hold a memory card of up to 16gb and the iPod Touch has 8 to 32gb depending on which size the owner opts for.

All handhelds mentioned have Wi-Fi capabilities. This is an excellent feature which allows users to surf the web, connect with other consoles of the same type, and download new games, applications and software updates. They all have their own customised stores. Nintendo DSi has the DSi – ware shop, PSP has the PS Store and the iPod Touch uses the App Store.

The DSi has single touch screen technology, the PSP does not have this capability although there is a home brew piece of equipment that owners can buy to set up their own touch screen function. The iPod Touch does have touch screen which is multi-touch technology.

The Nintendo DSi is 12% thinner than the DS Lite but the length is a little longer. The power switch on the DS Lite has been replaced to a button on the DSi which is going back to the original DS. A matted finish has been applied compared to the gloss finish of the DS Lite, which is meant to prevent showing finger prints.

The CPU in the Nintendo DSi is an ARM clocked at 133 MHz and has 16 MB of RAM. and the speakers have been improved from the previous model.

From July 30th you can upload photos from your Handheld DSi directly to your Facebook account. that means you can stay in touch more easily. Simply take the photo on your DSi then using the Wi-Fi connection log on to Facebook and upload the pic. It will then be viewable on the Facebook site as it normally would. The Nintendo DSi has a new firmware update which you must download in order to get the new feature. Nintendo DSi Firmware 1.4 is the latest and it also holds additional improvements to the technical features of the console.

The exciting new Facebook integration with the Nintendo DSi Camera allows you to send photos directly to your Facebook stream, where they will be shared with friends and stored in an Album on your profile. A Facebook logo will then appear in the album section of the camera, and a Facebook icon will now be present above your picture. Tap this to immediately connect online to your Facebook account and upload your picture.

The first time the new Facebook integration is used, you will need to log into your Facebook account using Facebook Connect, after which your email can be saved to the Nintendo DSi for ease of uploading images. The new Facebook functionality of the Nintendo DSi provides a safe and secure experience, and your password will never be revealed. Users can also always update their privacy settings on Facebook.com.

You can upload up to 200 photos in one album which is automatically named “Photos from Nintendo DSi” for your convenience – but there’s no need to stop there! When the 201st photo is uploaded to Facebook, a new album will simply be created.

Every single image from your Camera Album can be uploaded to Facebook. The fun image-altering tools available on the Nintendo DSi mean you can now play with them to your heart’s content before uploading them immediately to Facebook to share with friends. With eleven different lenses available on the Nintendo DSi Camera, you’ll never have had so much fun with your pictures!

Connect to the Internet via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection today, and take your photo sharing to a new level with Facebook on Nintendo DSi.

You might have a damaged Wii System, Handheld DS, DS Lite or the new DSi console and are wondering how to go about getting it repaired and getting a good job done. Well I thought I’d right a brief article about how and where you go about this.

This is for Nintendo customers based in the UK and Ireland only as we are going to talk about the official Nintendo website and this is the areas they cover.

Logging and sending the console

First log on to the Nintendo repair website. Here you will see the first heading on the page labeled “fast track repair”. You need to click to the right and you will be given a selection of models from which to choose your console. As mentioned above this covers the following; Wii Systems, DS, DS Lite and DSi handheld consoles. If you can’t see your model listed here it’s probably because it’s older and you then need to contact the Nintendo customer services.

Now select continue and you will be prompted to enter the serial number of you console. This is found on the official sticker normally on the base of all units. Make sure you include all the numbers. For example on the Wii the last number is surrounded by a black box but you must include this number. Some people leave this out. The code for the Wii is 11 digits long. Select continue.

The next stage asks you if you are sending back any other items with your console. Things such as adapters, Wii remotes etc. Only send them back if you think they are faulty.

Next Nintendo ask you to include proof of purchase if it’s still in the warranty period. This means al repairs will be done free unless they are exempt. If you need to pay for a repair to be carried out then Nintendo will require payment before the repair is completed. Major faults are charged and £70 and minor faults are £28.

After continuing there is the option to add additional comments which you might like to inform them of. Hit continue and fill out your details, after proceeding your details will be processed in their system and they will send you a freepost label that you use to post them your console. They also provide a username and password on this screen which can be used below.

Tracking the repair progress

After submitting your details the last screen would result in them giving you a username and password. Go back to the home screen and select track repair. Enter your username and password and they will give you the relevant update on how your repair is going. It fairly straight forward.

Other Info

You pretty much just need to wait for them to inform you with the status of repair. If you get stuck at any point then use their FAQ section or failing that there is a help line you can call. The number is 0870 6060247 or email nintendoservicecentre@codestorm.co.uk.

The new Nintendo DSi is to be released on the 3rd April 2009. Available in matte black or white (at first), this Nintendo DS upgrade has 2 built in cameras, carries an SD memory card slot, can play music and has the option of being able to download software updates. The physical difference from the DS is the new DSi is 12% thinner and has a larger screen.

The built in cameras can be located in the middle of the hing when the console is opened and the other on the right corner of the lid on the outside. Having both cameras means the user can take pictures of themselves using the internal camera and pictures of others using the external one. The cameras software comes with face recognition and lets you interact with photos by using the pen. This includes features such as

Distortion

Graffiti

Colour changing

Mirror

Picture Framing

Emoter

Merge

Resemblance

With all these features the Nintendo DSi becomes your own person picture diary. View your pictures in various styles and have the ability to send them via wireless connection to other DSi’s.

Record and play with sound, changing the speed, pitch, sound filtering and effects. As well as using it as an portable music device which supports aac format.

You can even get online with the Nintendo DSi, Shop in the DSi store and download games. Also earn points when you buy “DSi Ware” items.

Probably most importantly this new console is fully compatible with the older DS version which means you’ll be able play all your old games.
