This years E3 conference is over and with great success. Over 45,500 people attended the show held in L.A over a 3 day period to see what the big hitters would announce and release to the public. Next years date has already been confirmed as June 7th-9th for 2011 and will be held at the same location in Los Angeles.

300 Exhibitors were on show with the mass amount of visitors from over 90 different countries making this one of the biggest events in the annual calendar and figures slightly higher than 2009 E3 event.

Main topics of the event include the following;

• Microsoft announcing the new xbox 360 model kinects release on November 4th.
• Sony announcing their Motion-Control would start rolling out at the beginning of September.
• Nintendo unveiled the new handheld console, the 3DS available from October
• The next Zelda Game – Skyward Sword from Nintendo

This is just the tip of the iceberg for news and information, many other games were unleashed including;

Ubisofts Just Dance 2, (Just Dance 2 official press release)
Metroid Other M
Mario Sports Mix
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Kirby’s Epic Yarn
Wii Party
Fling Smash
PokePark Wii Pikachu’s Adventure
Samurai Warriors 3
Disney Epic Mickey
Legends of the Guardians: The owls of Ga’Hoole
NBA Jam
New Carnival Games
Sonic Colours

The read more about these games and their details then visit our E3 Games post round up. (http://www.nintendos4u.co.uk/blog/nintendo-games/e3-2010-games-announced)

Microsoft
We were reminded that Xbox is in its 10th year and that COD, Halo and Gears of War are three of the biggest franchises in the video gaming world.

Much awaited anticipation for the new Call of Duty Game: Black Ops with a release date set for 9th November 2010. Microsoft senior vice president, Don Mattrick told us that an exclusive multi-year agreement between themselves and Activision means Call of Duty game add-ons and map packs will launch first on the Xbox for the next 3 years.

Project Natal has been given a name: Kinect for the Xbox 360. “Bringing life to your living room”. (insert pic of Kinect) The new piece of technology for Xbox that enables massive interaction. The Kinect allows users to take control of environments using their hands and voice. For example talking to the Kinect and saying Xbox brings it to life. During movies if you move your hand to the left you can rewind the movie, impressive stuff. Saying “Xbox Pause” or Xbox Play” does what you tell it during movies or music. The Kinect will also be able to interact with you Windows Phone and Zune devices, it will be available to buy in every country that sales the Xbox 360 Live.

Kinect is able to allow video chat with others using a Kinect supported device such as the Xbox or windows phone and you can pass video files from one another by simply selecting it with your hand and giving it to the recipient. Mainly I expect Kinect will be used in the similar way the Wii Remote is used for Nintendo. It interacts with games to provide a real life experience, and sports games are available on the Xbox to give you plenty of sports choice, whether it be athletics to racing driving.

Nintendo

Nintendo was all about the 3DS handheld console this year at the E3 conference. This new edition to the handheld market is due for release in October 2010 and provides a 3D experience without the use of any additional viewing glasses.

From the evidence provided by Google Insights it suggests that Nintendo was the most successful at this years E3 show as search traffic increased to the Nintendo site by more than 5 times the amount than the Playstation Move page and 1.8 times than the Xbox Kinect page. Could this mean that Nintendo were the winners? In my opinion I would say yes.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was the main game for focus on the Nintendo Wii and will be another hit for them I’m sure. That’s as well as Mario Sports Mix which promises to be a good all round game for all gamer types, both casual and hard core.

Sony

The Sony department put their version of a motion controller on show, called Move. It will be available from 15th September in Europe combined with various bundle packages. 3D support was also announced for TV and Games with 3D technology.

The PlayStation Move controller will be available to pick up by itself for $49.99, while the Navigation controller will be available for $29.99 and the Eye camera for $39.99. The PlayStation Move, primarily uses the Move Controller and Eye camera, which allows movements to be tracked in real time, which really makes a difference in sports games. Playstation will also be releasing a Move bundle to incorporate all of these components.

Games released by Sony included Little Big Planet 2 among many others.
Sony too have made an attempt to release some 3D technology in a bid to keep up with the leaders, Nintendo, in my opinion.

A range of 3D games that will become available include:
• Killzone 3
• Motorstorm Apocolypse
• The Sly Collection
• Crysis 2
• Mortal Kombat
• Shawn White Skateboarding
• Tron Evolution
• NBA 2K11
• Gran Turismo 5

That’s it for this rather long post. You can catch more E3 details in individual post, for example the Nintendo Games post. Just keep your eyes on the blog.

Thanks for reading.

I still have an original console and very very occassionaly I will bring it out for a good laugh on Mario. It brings back many memories as i’m sure it does for most people.

NSider forum as been shut down indefinitely and in return Nintendo have announced the opening of their technical support forum. They have said that they are not sure if the NSider forum will reopen at a future date but I suspect they will only do that if the new support forum doesn’t take off. This gives them something to fall back on.

So…. you can find the new forum here

This will surley become a great resource for Wii and DS console specifically. They alrady have alot of posts. Check it out. I have just seen a 2 page long debate between two gamers, about Windex and Lens Cleaner. Which is best to clean a matte finish DSi. Some people have to much time on their hands

You might have a damaged Wii System, Handheld DS, DS Lite or the new DSi console and are wondering how to go about getting it repaired and getting a good job done. Well I thought I’d right a brief article about how and where you go about this.

This is for Nintendo customers based in the UK and Ireland only as we are going to talk about the official Nintendo website and this is the areas they cover.

Logging and sending the console

First log on to the Nintendo repair website. Here you will see the first heading on the page labeled “fast track repair”. You need to click to the right and you will be given a selection of models from which to choose your console. As mentioned above this covers the following; Wii Systems, DS, DS Lite and DSi handheld consoles. If you can’t see your model listed here it’s probably because it’s older and you then need to contact the Nintendo customer services.

Now select continue and you will be prompted to enter the serial number of you console. This is found on the official sticker normally on the base of all units. Make sure you include all the numbers. For example on the Wii the last number is surrounded by a black box but you must include this number. Some people leave this out. The code for the Wii is 11 digits long. Select continue.

The next stage asks you if you are sending back any other items with your console. Things such as adapters, Wii remotes etc. Only send them back if you think they are faulty.

Next Nintendo ask you to include proof of purchase if it’s still in the warranty period. This means al repairs will be done free unless they are exempt. If you need to pay for a repair to be carried out then Nintendo will require payment before the repair is completed. Major faults are charged and £70 and minor faults are £28.

After continuing there is the option to add additional comments which you might like to inform them of. Hit continue and fill out your details, after proceeding your details will be processed in their system and they will send you a freepost label that you use to post them your console. They also provide a username and password on this screen which can be used below.

Tracking the repair progress

After submitting your details the last screen would result in them giving you a username and password. Go back to the home screen and select track repair. Enter your username and password and they will give you the relevant update on how your repair is going. It fairly straight forward.

Other Info

You pretty much just need to wait for them to inform you with the status of repair. If you get stuck at any point then use their FAQ section or failing that there is a help line you can call. The number is 0870 6060247 or email nintendoservicecentre@codestorm.co.uk.

With the new Nintendo DSi about to hit the Europe market on April 3rd it is more than likely that the Nintendo DSi will become the most popular handheld console on the market to date.

The Nintendo DSi has already been released in Japan where sales have topped over 2 million in only five months and sales are still going strong. Game Stop’s CEO Bob McKenzie has confirmed that the pre-order sales figure has already doubled that of the original Nintendo DS. All this adds up to a hit console for Nintendo.

The DSi is an interactive device for the whole family and means it appeals to a wide audience which is only going to help with sales. Equipped with over 1000 games available for download directly to your handheld you are not short of choice. The main competitor to the Nintendo DSi is Sony’s new PSP. The PSP has similar features to the new DSi.

To compare the DSi has 2 built in cameras, the PSP has 1 camera which adds on to the console to give a real camera look and feel. The DS and DSi both have touch screen which are lacking in the PSP although there are home brew options which allow the owner to install their own touch screen setup. Both handhelds can play and store music. Both consoles have capabilities to go online and both can play video. Overall they are very similar but it’s the technical specs which separate these 2 portable consoles as well as their individual game titles.

With the release of the DSi, naturally the DS and DS Lite figures are expected to slow down and maybe even decrease in price which is great for people who perhaps cannot afford the DSi price tag which is set at £150 in the UK. However because of this it may mean DS sales figures continue at a steady level which is currently relatively strong. (Over 100 million units sold.)

Nintendo have a huge sales strategy planned which will be implemented throughout 2009 to ensure the public have the DSi in the front of there minds which will help maintain and grow sales. This includes software and game releases which will bring out the full potential of the Nintendo DSi and the use of it’s functions like the in-built cameras and 2 touch screens. Combined, these features will give the user new and advanced gaming experiences.

With Nintendo DSi sales expecting to sore and possibly break records you can keep up to date with all Nintendo Handheld news and information by visiting our Nintendo blog at Nintendo Handhelds and if you are thinking of buying a Nintendo DSi then make sure you check out this website.

Nintendo Wii Fit? Will it actually get me fit or is it just a load of wii hype?

Isn’t this just perfect… playing video games and at the same time getting fit!! The funny thing is that this is actually true. Not that you can just get fit and have a poor diet, it has to be a combination of both to gain a major benefit. But even with an average diet you can gain some benefits from the Wii Fit video game system.

When you open your Wii Fit you get the dvd and a wii balance board (or wii board as its also referred to). You simply insert the batteries and insert the dvd into your wii console then your ready to go. First we setup your user profile by entering you current weight, height and setting your centre of gravity by standing on the wii board itself. The allows you to initially calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index).

Once all setup there are around 40 activities that you can carry out dependant on the level you have attained within the games. More levels and games are unlocked the better you do in the activities. The games themselves include Tightrope Walking, ski jumps, football headers, Balance Bubble and Penguin Slide as well as the more traditional Leg Extensions, Push-ups, Triceps Extensions, Side Plank, Waist Twists, Lunge, Rowing Squats, Leg Lift and Parallel Stretching excercises.

Whilst most people associate excercise with being a solitary and boring activity, the nintendo wii fit concept changes all of this to entertain whilst enjoying the activities themselves in a video game like environment.

The wii fit excercise system also gives instant feedback to the user and provides your ‘wii fitness age’ as a focal point for you to beat the next time your play. This value is calculates on your balance, age and weight but your results can also be compared and shared through the wii fitness channel if you choose to do so.

Since the release of the nintendo wii fit system it has sold like hotcakes around the world and stocks are still limited. This tend seems set to continue with christmas comming soon and everyone will be buying for their boyfriends, girlfriends, family and friends.
